|#425 Pyrotechnics also known as Farmer's Fancy

| This is an unusual design that surfaced during the
West Virginia Documentation Project. It's an exciting
and explosive design - a 12 point rosette surrounded by
three rings of triangles. Paper piecing techniques are
used to construct the triangle rings and faced appliqué
is used to construct the center motif. Instructions for
one, two and three ring options, as well as border
treatments, are included.

| This block was inspired by a quilt documented during
the West Virginia Heritage Quilt Search; it now resides
at the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace in Hillsboro, WV. It
resembles Dresden Plate but has accent shapes
inserted between the spokes. Strip piecing and freezer
paper templates aid in construction.

| Learn the basics of Celtic interlace appliqué by
constructing this versatile block. The project
incorporates bias preparation, bias placement
and machine sewing techniques. The basic 12"
block can be finished as a pillow or framed with
a simple Celtic border to make a wall hanging or

| This pattern contains rotary cutting and
piecing directions for 12 blocks reminiscent of
West Virginia. Use these blocks individually, or
arrange them in any sampler setting. Basic
instructions for the "Mountain Ridge" setting
(83" x 97") are included.
